Lowry prints coming soon: Our Town, On the Sands and People Standing About

Signed limited-edition L.S. Lowry prints are coming soon to our collection: Our Town, On the Sands and People Standing About.

Each offers something different. Our Town is a substantial townscape filled with movement, On the Sands places Lowry’s familiar figures in a more open coastal setting, and People Standing About focuses more closely on the people themselves.

For anyone considering a signed Lowry print, the choice is likely to come down to subject, scale, edition details and how the work will sit within an existing collection or interior.

Our Town

Our Town is the largest and most valuable of the three prints. It is signed and numbered 743 from an edition of 850, with an image measuring approximately 42.5 × 61.5cm. It is listed at £6,000.

The image brings together many of the features most closely associated with Lowry: tightly grouped buildings, industrial architecture and figures moving through a busy public space. Although the people are relatively small within the composition, they give the scene its energy. There is enough detail across the print to make it rewarding both at a distance and when viewed more closely.

Its larger dimensions give it considerably more wall presence than the other two works. This may suit someone looking for a main piece rather than a smaller print to add alongside an existing display.

The edition was published by Grove Galleries Ltd in Manchester, a gallery closely associated with Lowry and his work. The publisher, pencil signature and edition number help identify it as a recognised signed edition. Our guide to five of the most valuable Lowry print titles in 2026 explains more about how subject, condition, publisher and collector demand can affect the market for individual titles.

Of the three, we would consider Our Town  the strongest choice for a collector wanting a classic Lowry townscape with scale, movement and a particularly recognisable subject.

On the Sands

On the Sands is signed and numbered 430 from an edition of 500. The image measures approximately 38 × 57cm and is listed at £3,500.

The coastal setting makes this noticeably different from the industrial scenes for which Lowry is often best known. His figures remain central to the image, but they are spread across a broad, open beach rather than enclosed by streets, mills and buildings.

This gives the print a calmer and less densely occupied appearance than Our Town. It may appeal to someone who wants an unmistakable Lowry subject but prefers a lighter composition or has a particular interest in his seaside scenes.

The edition was printed by Chorley Pickersgill Ltd in Leeds. A named printer helps confirm the production details associated with the recognised edition, although the condition, colour and presentation of the individual print remain important when comparing examples.

At £3,500, On the Sands sits between the other two works in price and size. It offers a good balance for a buyer who wants a substantial signed print without the scale or higher asking price of Our Town.

People Standing About

People Standing About is signed and numbered 209 from an edition of 500. It measures approximately 31 × 50cm and is listed at £2,500, making it the smallest and most accessible of the three.

Rather than relying on a large architectural or landscape setting, the print concentrates on groups of figures. Their different postures, spacing and directions create the interest within the scene.

This is one of the reasons Lowry’s figures remain so recognisable. Although they are simply drawn, they do not all behave in the same way. Some appear to be waiting, others are walking or speaking, and some remain slightly apart from the people around them.

The work was published by Penrose Fine Arts International and carries a Fine Art Trade Guild blindstamp. This embossed mark forms part of the edition information and can help identify a print issued through the Guild’s recognised system. Our expert guide to buying signed Lowry prints covers edition details, signatures, condition and other points worth checking before buying.

We would see People Standing About as a good option for someone who is particularly drawn to Lowry’s observation of crowds, or who wants a signed print at a more accessible price point and slightly smaller scale.
