PM Antiques & Collectables – Our Latest Stock

At PM Antiques, we pride ourselves on our extensive collection of antiques and collectables. We don’t focus specifically on any one area, making sure that there’s always something for everyone in stock. Here are five selected items from our latest range:

Kerry Darlington is a welsh born artist who takes inspiration from the Art Nouveau period and the artists of this time – such as Klimt. William Gear RA RBSA, Female Nude Standing, ink and gouache

Another new addition to our contemporary art department is an ink and gouache study of a standing female nude by the Scottish Royal Academician William Gear (1915-1997). Signed and dated ’37 lower right, it dates from a key period in the artist’s career when, while travelling Europe under a scholarship from 1937-38, he studied under Fernand Léger. In the post-war era, Gear moved towards abstraction. As implied by a lot label verso, this vibrantly coloured work on paper was previously sold by Bonhams 20 years ago as part of a collection of Gear’s work from the estate of fellow artist Rendall Wells.

Thomas François Cartier, bronzed terracotta elephant

Thomas François Cartier (1879-1943) was a French artist and sculptor. He focused mainly on animal sculpture, pairing their animalistic nature with a romanticised version. Dog and wild cat creations were his specialist subjects, but this piece demonstrates a diversity to his sculpting capabilities. The terracotta model measures 44cm high and bears the artist’s incised signature to base.

Pelham Puppet – Gerry Anderson’s ‘Twizzle’

Any puppet collector knows when they see a Pelham Puppet. These puppets are beloved by many and have a rich history. Their production was at its height in the late 1950s until tragedy struck with a factory fire in 1961. Pelham created the universally recognisable puppets Sooty and Sweep, two seemingly timeless childhood characters still treasured by many. This rather scarce puppet of Gerry Anderson’s Twizzle stands 33cm tall and has clearly been enjoyed by many.
